SUMMARY:Mental Health First Aid Training
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a 30 minute lunch break. \nMental Health First Aid is a public education\, certification program offered by The Arc of Loudoun and Loudoun County Department of Mental Health\, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services (MHSADS) that teaches you how to identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. \nThese courses are offered free of charge to anyone in the Loudoun community. \nRegister here. \nTraining Session Formats: \nAll participants will be required to complete a two-hour\, self-paced online training in advance of the virtual instruction\, which will be scheduled for about a week later. Following the completion of the required training: \nParticipants in the Adult Mental Health First Aid program will complete a six-hour\, instructor-led videoconference training typically held in two sessions. \nWhat the Training Covers: \n\nCommon signs and symptoms of mental illness.\nCommon signs and symptoms of substance use.\nHow to interact with a person in crisis.\nHow to connect the person with help.\nThe trainings now include expanded content on trauma\, addiction and self-care.

It’s a chance for people with disabilities and their families to have their photos taken with Santa and to tell him about their wish lists. Funds raised help support the ALLY Advocacy Center’s services for people with disabilities. \nPhotos are sponsored by Tine’s Captured Moments and SD Photography.
