DESCRIPTION:Wake Up to Make a Difference!\nThe Arc of Loudoun’s Opportunities Breakfast features a fast-paced program that includes networking\, updates from organizational leadership\, and powerful stories directly from the people whose lives are impacted by our work. There is no cost to attend\, and breakfast is complimentary. \nGifts made during the Opportunities Breakfast directly support The Arc’s mission to advocate for\, educate\, serve\, and support more than 5\,000 people with disabilities and their families each year across our region. \nDress: Business Casual \nRegister to Attend or Sponsor! \n\nWhy Should Guests Attend?\nDisability touches every community. \n\nOne in four adults in the United States has some type of disability\, and one in 36 children is diagnosed with autism (CDC).\nAccording to the 2022 American Community Survey\, 30\,373 Loudoun County residents (7.1 percent) have at least one disability.\nPeople with disabilities experience poverty at twice the rate of those without disabilities\, due in part to barriers in employment\, education\, and the added costs of daily living.\nAs Loudoun County continues to grow\, so does the need for accessible programs and services that support low-income families and individuals with disabilities.\n\nThe Opportunities Breakfast invites guests to learn more\, connect with our mission\, and discover how together we can build a more inclusive community. \nAttendance is free\, and breakfast is provided.While this event is a fundraiser\, guests are simply invited at the end of the program to make a contribution if they feel inspired. There is no minimum or required gift. \n

DESCRIPTION:This training will be offered in a hybrid format – join us in-person at Visit Loudoun or online! \nRoughly a quarter of all U.S. adults have a disability—if you own or manage a business\, that’s a lot of potential customers. \nThe Arc of Loudoun’s You Belong Here Disability Awareness and Accessibility Training helps businesses and their staff realize\, understand and address the barriers people with all types of disabilities may face when they try to shop\, stay or work at those businesses\, and help businesses understand how people with disabilities might look for when finding and choosing a place to visit\, shop or work. \nWhen you complete the training you will receive a You Belong Here certification valid for a year\, and a sensory comfort kit and reference materials to take back to work for a refresher on the training any time. \nRegister for Training! \n  \nThe training is offered by The Arc of Loudoun. The Arc of Loudoun’s mission is to advocate for\, educate\, serve and support people with disabilities. SUMMARY:iCan Bike Camp
DESCRIPTION:The vast majority of people with disabilities never experience the thrill of independently riding a two-wheel bicycle during their lifetime. Recent research shows that over 80% of people with Autism and 90% of people with Down syndrome never learn to ride a two-wheel bicycle. iCan Bike defies those odds! The program builds on more than twenty years of research at the University of Illinois. Join us for camp the week of June 22nd! \nRide with Us! \nVolunteer with Us! \n  \nRider Information\nPrice: $400 \n\nSchedule \nJune 22nd to June 26\nParent orientation on June 21st \n\nSession #1: 8:30am – 9:45am\nSession #2: 10:05am – 11:20am\nSession #3: 11:40am – 12:55am\nSession #4: 2:00pm – 3:15pm\nSession #5: 3:35pm – 4:50pm\n\nEach rider will attend the same 75-minute session\, Monday through Friday. \n\nImportant to know: \n\nDropping off riders at the program is not permitted. A parent\, legal guardian or other adult authorized to take responsibility for the rider must remain on site for duration of each day’s 75-minute program.\nOn Friday\, a parent\, family member or sibling is expected to participate in the session so they will be able to support the rider after camp ends.\nEach rider is expected to have his/her own bike helmet\, and by Wednesday of that week\, his/her own properly fitted bicycle. Guidelines will be provided.\n\n\nRider requirements: \n\nHave a disability\nMinimum age 8 years old\nAble to sidestep to both sides\nAble to attend camp all 5 days\nAble to walk without assistive device\nMaximum weight 220 lbs.\nWilling and able to wear a properly fitted bike helmet\nMinimum inseam of 20” (measure from floor while rider is wearing sneakers)\nAccompanied by parent/guardian willing and able to intervene or assist staff as requested in addressing any prolonged disruptive or aggressive behavior\n\n  \nRider Registration \n  \nVolunteer Information\nNo prior experience working with people with disabilities necessary! iCan Bike is a week-long camp for people with disabilities; 40 children and young adults learn to ride a bike with the support of 80 volunteers! \nVolunteers walk/jog/run alongside a rider as they learn to ride on a specialized\, adapted bike for a 75-minute session (with short breaks) for five days\, Monday through Friday. You provide encouragement and physical support as needed.
